As a founding member, BMEX gives Watershed the freedom to experiment with digital media and services.
BMEX provides high speed connectivity to staff and Watershed café/bar customers through internet terminals and open wireless access. Public access is constrained to mimic standard ADSL speeds, but Watershed still offers some of the fastest, symmetrical wireless provision in Bristol.
As publisher and commissioner, Watershed benefits from BMEX¹s symmetrical bandwidth. In-house servers host over 30 websites, email and content for Watershed and collaborating artists, saving on co-location and maintenance fees.
The fast connection between BMEX members has allowed Watershed to collaborate with HP Labs, enabling Mobile Bristol to use servers located in HP to control content in Watershed and the surrounding harbourside area. BMEX is also used by high profile projects like DepicT! and Brief Encounters Film Festival to transfer digitised films from Films@59 to Watershed servers for judging.
"Joining BMEX catapulted Watershed into the digital revolution. BMEX has
allowed us to build a range of relationships which connect up talent and
expertise, projecting Bristol to the world. More people now visit
Watershed online than visit the building and both continue to grow"
Dick Penny, Watershed Media Centre
