Pricing > Overview

The basic pricing structure for Broadband Media Exchange services is as follows:

  • Initial Core Connection fee to the BMEX hub - £800
  • Annual Core Subscription fee (paid in advance) - £400
  • Dedicated Uncontended Synchronous Internet Bandwidth* - £100 per Mbps per month
  • Link costs - these vary depending on your distance from the hub, and the circumstances of the installation, but are typically £6000 to install a dedicated 10Mbps link (fibre LAN extension service) with an annual rental of £1350

All prices exclude VAT

* The nature of the BMEX network allows you to "burst" above your Internet bandwidth allowance up to the maximum available in the shared pool at any given time. All subscribers are guaranteed to have their purchased bandwidth allowance available on a completely uncontended, dedicated basis.

We are currently investigating connection options for links less than 10Mbps, as well as funding opportunities to help smaller companies subscribe to the network. Bear in mind that you do not have to buy 10Mbps of Internet bandwidth from BMEX - this is simply the usual minimum speed of a fibre LAN Extension Service provided by a telco to connect to the hub (and thus to cross-connect to other subscribers).

Why is it so expensive?

Sadly, the cost of networking outside of the usual home or office packages is very high, especially when higher quality connections are needed. Synchronous, high-availability Internet bandwidth is at a premium, and the BMEX offers a unique, shared solution which provides bursting of traffic, depending on the usage required by other members at that time.

We are currently investigating other methods of connecting to the BMEX hub, including wireless (both radio and laser), DSL and cable modem, in an effort to reduce the costs of entry to the network.

If you wish to investigate alternative methods of connecting to the network, please contact us directly to discuss the options.
